Watch Highlights

Matt Keith's goal in overtime helped the Sound Tigers pick up two important points towards their playoff push, in a 5-4 victory over the Worcester Sharks. Colton Fretter pitched in with two goals and the newest member of the Sound Tigers' lineup, Tyler Mosienko, also scored his first American Hockey League goal in his first AHL game.

Worcester took the lead at the 13:59 mark of the first period when Derek Joslin scored his ninth goal of the season. Tom Cavanagh won a face-off clean in the left circle back to the left point where Joslin leaned into the puck, firing it past Sound Tigers' starting goalie Mike Morrison for the 1-0 lead.

The Sound Tigers did a great job of killing off a long five-minute penalty to Kip Brennan that extended into the second period. However, two seconds after Pascal Morency, serving the penalty for Brennan, came out of the box, Mike Iggulden scored his team leading 24th goal of the season for the Sharks. Dennis Packard and Cavanagh had the assists on the goal, coming one minute and 40 seconds into the second period for the 2-0 lead.

Fretter would give the Sound Tigers life in the third period when he scored two goals 2:23 apart. His first came only 29 seconds into final period of regulation when he slammed home a loose puck in front, for his seventh of the season. Sean Bentivoglio and Dustin Kohn had the assists on the goal. Fretter scored his second goal of the period and eight of the season when Trevor Smith sent a pass in front to where he one-timed the puck through Sharks' starting goalie Dimitri Patzold, tying the score at 2-2. With the Sound Tigers on the man-advantage, Mosienko scored his first goal of the season and first in the AHL. Mark Wotton sent a shot deep into the zone to Ben Walter in the right corner. Walter walked in front and tried to jam the puck through Patzold but the puck squirted to Mosienko who was there to push the puck in at the 11:49 mark of the third period giving the Sound Tigers the 3-2 lead.

The game appeared over when Tyler Haskins wristed his first goal of the season into the empty net on an assist from Jean Desrochers for the Sound Tigers 4-2 lead. Worcester pulled Patzold for the extra-attacker and was able to tie the score with goals from Ashton Rome and Tom Walsh in the final minute, sending the game to overtime.

With less than a minute remaining in the extra session, Drew Fata made a great play at the Sharks' blue-line to control the puck until his forwards could crash Patzold. Fata blasted a slap-shot on net that Patzold made the save on, but the puck trickled behind the Worcester net-minder where Keith was standing to slam home his tenth goal of the season and win the game for the Sound Tigers 5-4. Mosienko also had an assist on the game-winning goal.

The Sound Tigers finished the game 1-for-5 on the power-play and were a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty-kill. Morrison finished the game with 30 saves on 34 shots while Patzold stopped 25.

The Sound Tigers will return home tonight and begin preparing for their big four games in five night next week. Wednesday, the Sound Tigers will take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on the road at 7:05 p.m., before returning home for three games on the weekend. The festivities start on Friday when the Sound Tigers welcome the Hershey Bears, face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Penguins and Sound Tigers will play their final game in Bridgeport at 7 p.m. The Hartford Wolf Pack will drive south to Arena at Harbor Yard on Sunday with for a 4 p.m. match-up.
