INS AND OUTS - JOEY MACDONALD

Mar 31, 2008

Question: Name something that some one would be surprised about you?

Answer: My family has owned a farm ever since I was born. Over the summer, I help my father with our cow farm. My son Camden loves to help out and he has his own cow named Matilda. My father takes him out for tractor rides and he loves it.

Joey MacDonaldQ. If you were not playing hockey, what would you be doing?

A. I'd be a landscaper. I did it for seven years while I lived at home during the hockey and off-season.

Q. If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be?

A. Mel Gibson because I am a fan of every single movie he has been in. My favorite without a doubt is Braveheart.

Q. Do you have any hidden talents?

A. I can drive ATVs really well.

Q. As a spectator, what is your favorite part of attending a hockey game?

A. The shootout and being a part of the fans cheering. Our shootout last night against the Wolf Pack was incredible and the amount of people there made it that much better.

Q. Do you have any superstitions or pre-game rituals?

A. I do everything the same on game-days. I always put my right piece of equipment on first and then the left.

MacDonald HSQ. What is you favorite sport other than hockey?

A. I like Nascar. My favorite driver is Matt Kenseth. My son's favorite driver is Greg Biffle.

Q. What has been the proudest moment of your hockey career thus far?

A. My first NHL victory. I was playing for Detroit at the time and we defeated the Calgary Flames 6-3. The Flames scored two goals in the last minute to pull closer to us, which made me really nervous, but we pulled it out and got the win.

Q. Who was your favorite hockey player growing up as a kid?

A. Curtis Joseph

Q. What is your favorite vacation spot?

A. PEI, Prince Edward Island because of all the beautiful beaches. They have a lot of small shops in the town, which makes it nice to walk around.

Q. What is your greatest non-hockey moment?

A. The birth of my son, Camden and my daughter Kendall.

Q. What actor would best play you in a movie and what type would it be?

A. Will Ferrell would play me and it would be a comedy movie with a country western theme.

Q. What is the worst hockey injury that you have suffered?

A. I had back surgery when I was playing for Grand Rapids. We were in Cleveland playing against the Barons and got run over. I twisted the wrong way and I had a bulging disc. I had my level five disc cut out.

Q. You had a white mask for most of the season and now have the design on it. Tell us about the new mask.

A. I kept it pretty simple. On the top there is the Islanders’ logo. The sides have lighthouses with waves crashing into them. My nickname is “Mac” so obviously that’s on my chin. On the back I have the names of my kids, Camden and Kendall. Had the white mask for most of this season because I was waiting for this mask to finish at the painter’s.
