DARIEN COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Sound Tigers Summer Calendar

On Saturday, July 12th, the Sound Tigers once again were on the road and out in the community. This time, the team van and slap shot machine found it’s way to Darien for the Darien Chamber of Commerce’s annual Sidewalk Sale and Family Fun Days. Parked in front of Darien Sport Shop, the Sound Tigers brought both the sale and the fun.

Throughout the day, hundreds of hockey fans from all over Connecticut stopped by the Sound Tigers’ booth to admire the jerseys, test their shot on the inflatable goalie, and earn giveaway items, including t-shirts and a team yearbook.

While representatives from the team were busy helping the kids perfect their grip for a fierce slap shot on the inflatable slap shot machine (a difficult task for some, as the left-handed stick towered over many of the tiniest participants), parents stood behind chatting about their past experiences at games.

“Our son had his birthday with the Sound Tigers last year and it was great,” said one mom, as she watched her two young boys take turns shooting. “We brought some of his friends and he got to meet Storm, got a bobble head, and had a shirt with his name on the back because he was the birthday boy.”

With their children occupied, the adults also took a moment to sign up for the newly invigorated Sound Tigers Kids Club, a free club which offers benefits such as an official membership card, discounts on birthday parties, a chance to skate with Sound Tigers mascot Storm after a home game, and best of all, a free ticket to a Sound Tigers game.

Everyone was excited to hear of the open opportunity to bring their families to a game next season. “The kids love going up [to Sound Tigers games],” said a please parent as she signed her three kids up for the free club.

“I have always been so impressed by how supportive the residents of Darien are of the Sound Tigers,” said Shane Beardsley, the team’s Director of Community Relations. “With Darien Youth Hockey being one of the most renowned hockey programs in the country, combined with the immense support of the Darien school systems, we are always looking for ways to reach out to that community. We’re glad to have the addition of so many Darien residents to our new and improved kids club, and look forward to seeing our new members at Storm’s birthday party on October 19th.”

Sound Tigers fans who did not attend the event in Darien can still sign up for the Kids Club at events throughout the summer, at home games, or through the Sound Tigers Kids Club website.
