ADOPT A TIGER

Aug 5, 2008

Local Connecticut families now have a rare and rewarding opportunity to “Adopt a Tiger” - a Bridgeport Sound Tiger. The Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the New York Islanders hockey team, are looking for host families for several of the team's new/youngest players during the 2008-09 season.

The “Adopt a Tiger” program will provide professional hockey players, who are away from home, a chance to enjoy family life in Connecticut from late September through the conclusion of the playoffs. Additionally, the program will give empty-nesters or families with children the company of an "adopted" son and/or brother.

The Sound Tigers’ schedule runs through the biggest holiday seasons of the year, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. Local families are asked to share their homes with skaters who are adapting to life away from their own families - in some instances for the first time.

"Families will enjoy spending special moments with our players," Sound Tigers President Howard Saffan said. "The Adopt a Tiger program enables the Sound Tigers to become a part of the local community."

Players will require a private room and place to park a car. Reimbursement for the expenses in meeting the necessary specifications is provided for families.

The “Adopt a Tiger” program has proven successful in the past. Bryan Trottier, the Islander's Director of Player Development and a former Islander star, stayed with a host family during his early playing days and past Sound Tigers such as Dustin Kohn and Jason Pitton both have matured immensely from the experience.

Prospective host families should email the Sound Tigers with their interest in adopting a Tiger, home-town, and contact information at info@soundtigers.com.
