SOUND TIGERS HIRE NEW EQUIPMENT MANAGER

Bridgeport, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today the hiring of Michael Burkhead, as the new head equipment manager for the 2007-08 season.
"I am excited by this wonderful opportunity that Howard Saffan and Jack Capuano have provided me," Burkhead said. "I plan on bringing all of the knowledge I've gained throughout my years as an equipment manager to Bridgeport in the hopes of putting the best team on the ice next season."
"Michael is the perfect fit for the position," Howard Saffan, president said. "His experience and work ethic will ensure the Sound Tigers will be well equipped on the ice."
Burkhead joins the Sound Tigers with a tremendous resume. He served as the head equipment manager of the Columbia Inferno of the East Coast Hockey League last season. Prior to joining the Inferno, Burkhead was the head equipment manager for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League from 2003-06. He also served as an assistant equipment manager for the Philadelphia Phantoms during the 2002-03 season.
Burkhead belongs to the SPHEM (Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers), Athletic Equipment Managers Association and is certified by the Maximum Edge Skate Sharpening and Profiling class.
After graduating from Ohio State University in 1999, he became an assistant equipment manager his first year out of college for the Buckeyes. Burkhead worked with the coaches and players on a daily basis, tending to specific equipment repairs and the needs of the visiting teams and officials.
Michael and his fiance, Mandy, plan on moving to Connecticut in June.
